Today, school safety is a top priority for all departments, and that initiative usually relies on technology to support this challenge. The Door Security scanning app is an example of multiple departments in our district collaborating to develop a solution that ensures our schools are lsecured throughout the day. Coordinated school health, the director of schools, maintenance, and technology worked together to create a solution that helps our district document and monitor the numerous exterior doors in our buildings. This simple solution empowers school staff and law enforcement to document regular checks with technology already owned by the district.
How the system works
Our district decided the best approach to ensuring our exterior doors are locked and secured was to have personel physically check the doors throughout the day. With many doors to check, documentation was the imediate challenge with this initiative. We did not want to burden our already busy school resource officers with paperwork.
To solve this challenge I developed a PowerApp that streamlines the process for documentation and esures data integrety. The door security scan system is a PowerApp that is designed for mobile devices. It is the primary job of the app is to scan a door and log that it is locked and secured. If the door is not locked and secured, the app helps the user document the issue and inform school administration.
This powerful solution only requires the user of the app to scan the door with a mobile device, check that it is secure, and log it in the app with one tap on the screen. The quick and easy process allows our staff to check buildings with ove 70 doors in under 20 minutes.
